SEASON 2
EPISODE 1 “BLACK MEN LIVING UNDER A MARGIN”
In this episode, Evan Marshall speaks with Mondale Robinson of Black Male Voter Project about how the history and tactics of American politics have kept Black men from the polls. Robinson explains how expanding the electorate needs to be rooted in building relationships and listening to real voters, stressing the need to take money out of politics. Robinson shares how the Black Male Voter Project works year-round to civically engage voters and emphasizes how important it is to demystify the political sphere and make politics feel like a part of people’s lives.
EPISODE 2 "'DATA-DRIVEN' POLICING KILLS"
In this episode, Charity Croff speaks with Community Organizer Hamid Khan of STOP LAPD SPYING about data-driven policing and its effects on our communities. Khan explains how the origins and ultimate purpose of policing are rooted in control and creating harm, exploring how data has historically served to perpetuate these systems and how technology has only expedited their effects. The two dissect how data is falsely presented as objective in a way to justify the actions of systems that are seeking to mass criminalize specific communities. Croff and Khan explore the concept of alternatives to policing and dig further into what it really means to build systems with a community.
